Mandolin Case - Video Contest

Dr. Tom Bibey is the world's only physician bluegrass fiction writer.

Dr. Bibey writes on his blog:
"The publisher of “The Mandolin Case” just started a You-tube video clip contest. The details and contest rules are on the official Mandolin Case FaceBook Page.  (also included here below)
Of course, I realize they hope to promo my book, but at the same time one of my dreams was that the book might draw new folks to our genre, as I believe bluegrass music is the last great relatively undiscovered American art form. Nothing would tickle me more than for some as of yet not well-known band to go viral.

You don’t have to be seasoned musician to give it a try. If a small child played “Mary Had a Little Lamb” and said their parents started them on the mandolin after they read the book, that will thrill me even more than if an established band got some more well-deserved publicity.
Keep in mind much of the Internet world is still somewhat new to the genre, and you will want to appeal to them as well as people like me who have been around this music all their life.
Good luck and have fun. If a North or South Carolina crowd wins, me and Marfar might just join you for a plate of barbecue."

“The ‘The Mandolin Case’ provides more
twists and curls than the grain in a piece of
birds-eye maple. Like a master fiddler weaving
notes through the melody of a song, Bibey holds
forth simplicity as the most complex asset
when prejudice and greed place honor and
integrity on trial.” Dan Hays,
International Bluegrass Music Association

“Dr. Bibey honors the truth and simplicity of
rural southern life and traditional music.
Finally, an author resists the hackneyed stereotype
to accurately portray the integrity of bluegrass music
and the people that love it.”
–
Kristin Scott Benson, member of Grascals,
IBMA Banjo Player of Year 2008 and 2009

"The Mandolin Case’ was released in May of 2010. Is is available from Bibey's website www.themandolincase.com  or directly from Amazon.com. In the story, all the events were fictionalized to protect privacy and the guilty.  However, it is all true.  As his agent always says, “Son, you can never lie to your reader.”  To quote a Lit Professor, “For it to be good fiction, it need not necessarily have happened but it must be true.”

The Mandolin Case is a medical legal mystery solved by the local bluegrass community. It shows the truth but tells no facts. The author searched for indelible human truths that are unchanged over generations. He rejected temporary fads that will fade once out of style. The truth was found in the arts, and not science. It was found by ordinary people and not the rich and famous. It is a story for people weary of exploitation of the humble by the powerful, and a roadmap to thwart the efforts of the greedy.
