Memorial Planned for Jake Jenkins, former Banjo player with Karl Shifflet.

The bluegrass music community has been saddened by the loss of Jake Jenkins and his  parents in a sudden accident.  Jake was a former banjo player for Karl Shiflett and contributed many songs on the bands recordings. 


Karl writes on his webpage:
Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the passing of our dear friend and former band mate Jake Jenkins. Jake along with his parents Dan & Dorothy Jenkins were tragically killed in an airplane crash March 27th 2011 near Jake’s home in Dickens, Texas. Your thoughts and prayers are appreciated.

A special memorial/benefit concert is to be held in Lubbock, TX.  The details are included here below.

This special Karl Shiflett & Big Country Show at the Cactus Theater will be a memorial/benefit performance for Jake Jenkins. Travers Chandler & Avery County will be starting off the evening of music. 


Jake Jenkins was also the equipment operator for the Lubbock Fire Department. Net proceeds from this concert will be presented to Jake’s wife and children.

Jake was an original member of the Karl Shifflet band in 1993. His contributions to the KSBC sound as well as bluegrass music in general have been monumental and will not soon be forgotten. 


Jake is survived by his wife Rhonda Jenkins, a son Eli Jenkins, two daughters, Maggie Marie Jenkins and Ella Rose Jenkins all of Dickens, Texas. One brother, Jason Jenkins of Brenham, Texas.

tribute CD is being put together compiled of songs written by Jake during his time with KSBC. The project will contain 12 songs previously recorded on Rebel records on three different projects. The tunes will appear together on one CD on the newly formed KSBC MUSIC label. Proceeds from the sale of the project will benefit Jake’s wife and children.
