Bela Fleck and Flecktones Reunited by "Rocket Science"
Genre-bending, Grammy-winning banjo master Béla Fleck reunites his original lineup of the Flecktones with the new CD Rocket Science. Released last week on eOne Music, the album marks the return of pianist/harmonica player Howard Levy, who departed Fleck’s groundbreaking group in 1991. Fleck says of this version of the band (himself, Levy, bassist Victor Wooten and percussionist Roy “Futureman” Wooten), “We stopped when we were peaking creatively.” But two decades on, the ensemble is attacking its eclectic goulash of jazz, blues, bluegrass, African, Eastern European and other styles with renewed vigor – and bringing the original Flecktones experience to a new generation of fans with a national tour, which kicks off May 29.
