The Earth String Band will tour the country from September 21-25 and other South East Asian nations, according to the US Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
From Boston, Massachusetts, the four-member band combines bluegrass and contemporary acoustic music.
Burmese composer Myint Moe Aung said that only a few people in Burma are aware of Bluegrass music, a regional music from the southern US.
The music tour is part of “The Rhythm Road” tour arranged through the US State Department and Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York.
According to the The Earth String website the group will also tour in Laos, Thailand, East Timor and South Korea.
The Rhythm Road: American Music Abroad was launched in 2005, and 10 ensembles are selected to tour each season.
In 2008, the Maya Azucena Band toured Burma followed by The Student Loan Band in 2008.
