Bluegrass Music Fundraiser features the “award winning” Gibson Brothers
Great Mills, Maryland, 10/3/2011— The featured, headlining group, The Gibson Brothers swept up two of the biggest awards at last Thursday (September 29, 2011) night’s 22nd annual International Bluegrass Awards at the Ryman Auditorium, taking home “Album of the Year,” and “Vocal Group of the Year.” The Compass Records duo, Eric and Leigh Gibson, received seven nominations for Help My Brother released in February to chart topping and critical success, establishing them as one of bluegrass’ hottest acts. The Gibson Brothers from New York will be part of the Bluegrass event, “Bluegrass For Hospice-2011”, a one day music event that will be held on Saturday October 22, 2011 at the Flat Iron Farm on Flat Iron Road in Great Mills, Maryland.
The event, beginning at Noon, will raise money for the Hospice House of St. Mary’s County located in Callaway, Maryland. Presented and coordinated by Jay Armsworthy, “Bluegrass For Hospice-2011” will also feature many local Bluegrass bands as well.

In addition to this year’s win, The Gibson Brothers—Eric and Leigh—are also 2010 IBMA Award Winners. "If you keep showing up good things can happen. We're lifters, we don't have a plan B and this is what we do and we feel very fortunate to be doing this for quite a while now. This is validation for staying in it and not giving up," says Eric Gibson of the wins. “Help My Brother” is their tenth release and the finest in their career. It was the #1 album on the Bluegrass Unlimited June chart and also #1 on Bluegrass Music Profiles' April chart as well as the title track being the #1 single. Along with Eric and Leigh there ensemble’s tight arrangements include band members Clayton Campbell (fiddle), Joe Walsh (mandolin) and Mike Barber (upright bass). Leigh and Eric grew up on the family farm in upstate New York. The Brothers duet harmonies can be compared to the classic brother duos such as The Louvin Brothers, Jim and Jesse McReynolds, and even The Everly Brothers. With their tight brother harmonies, The Gibson Brothers is one of the most important bands in bluegrass music today.
“Bill Yates and the Country Gentlemen Tribute Band” from Virginia featuring Calvert County native, Mike Phipps will also be a featured headline act. Fronting The Tribute Band, Bluegrass fans will immediately recognize the name Bill Yates for his many years as a member of The Country Gentlemen. Bill played bass and sang harmony with the band through several lineup changes, staying with Charlie Waller for 20+ years starting in 1969. Bill has been deemed as The Ambassador of Bluegrass. Today’s lineup of the Country Gentlemen Tribute band includes Bill Yates (Emcee), Calvert County native, Mike Phipps (guitar) plays the Charlie Waller sound-alike vocals, Dave Propst (mandolin), Rick Briggs (banjo), Eric Troutman (upright bass), and Mark Clifton (resophonic guitar--dobro). All members of the band contribute their vocals to the groups harmony sound. This ensemble puts their heart and soul into each performance satisfying that musical hunger for the multitude of Country Gentlemen fans around the country. Especially the ones that truly misses hearing that magical voice of Charlie Waller himself; doing their best to re-create the way the actual songs were performed and sung. As part of this year’s “Bluegrass For Hospice-2011” on October 22, you can witness this special event; the phenomena that is, The Country Gentlemen: Tribute.
There are some new additions to the lineup of local bands that will cross the stage throughout the day. We’re glad to welcome this year, “The Bluegrass Gospel Express” providing some fine old time Gospel singing as they lift up of our Lord Jesus Christ in song and music. Also on stage will be the “Jack Tippett Band”, “Jay Armsworthy & Eastern Tradition”, “Charlie Thompson & Bottom County Bluegrass”, “and Bubby Abell & Spoon Creek”, and back by popular demand, a special appearance by “Gracie’s Guys and Gals Dancers”. Troy Jones will provide sound for the event. He’s one of the finest and works the hardest behind the scenes.
