2012 Bluegrass Awards To Be Broadcast LIVE

ibma televisionMore than one suggestion has been made over the years to the IBMA directors to find a way to share the annual awards program to members and fans who cannot attend in person due to geographic, financial or any other consideration.   The year 2012 will go down in bluegrass history as the year they made it happen.

The International Bluegrass Music Award have been recognized throughout the music industry as one of the highest-quality live music award shows in the nation and thanks to VisitRaleigh.com and BluegrassToday who will share the sponsorship roles, bluegrass fans around the world will be able to share the experience that previously they could only read about after it was all over.

The IBMA Newsletter says they’re  “…taking a Neil Armstrong-size step” toward reaching their goal of televising the awards.  While this first broadcast won’t actually be televised according to what the world knows broadcast television to be, it will be broadcast world-wide on today’s new television medium, the Internet  - a live streaming video broadcast of the 23rd annual show September 27 at 7:30 p.m. (CST) simultaneously on BluegrassNation.org and BluegrassToday.com, live from the historic stage of the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee.

Free Page CurlThe program will air once on both websites at no charge to viewers, but visitors to BluegrassNation.org will have the option to make a $5-10 donation in a virtual PayPal tip jar to help cover expenses. Co-sponsor Bluegrass Today is planning some pre-event programming at 6:45 p.m. (CST) with red-carpet video footage from the BMI Nominees Reception held earlier in the evening. The production team from Music City Roots will film the IBMA Awards for broadcast. The Nashville-based program streams live weekly on Wednesday nights at www.musiccityroots.com.

“We are thrilled to be able to offer the live streaming broadcast of the IBMA Awards this year,” said IBMA executive director Nancy Cardwell. “A few of the best seats in the house are still available at the Ryman by calling 888-GET-IBMA or going to www.ibma.org to order tickets if you can be here in person. But for those members and fans literally scattered around the globe, we’re extremely happy to be able to invite you to see and hear the show online as it takes place in Nashville.”

Bluegrass Today, The Boston Bluegrass Union, and VisitRaleigh.com are co-sponsoring the show.

KET To Film Fan Fest for Jubilee

The city of Raleigh is also stepping up to sponsor the first filming of IBMA’s Bluegrass Fan Fest by Kentucky Educational Television.

KET producer Nick Helton expects to capture enough footage Sept. 28-29 for 20 half-hour episodes of their music festival series, Jubilee.

“We are very excited to bring Jubilee to the 2012 IBMA Fan Fest,” Helton said. “This will be a first for both Jubilee and IBMA – the first time we have taken our production outside the state of Kentucky in 16 seasons and the first time that Fan Fest has been recorded. The lineup of artists at Fan Fest is always top notch; we know that our loyal viewers and bluegrass music fans will enjoy the new season.”

Helton’s crew of 25 will record Fan Fest in HD video with seven cameras and multi-track audio. The series is distributed nationally through the National Education Television Association (NETA) to 114 public television stations across the United States.

In addition to live music segments, Jubilee also includes artist interviews. Check your local public television stations now to see if they carry the program. Now is the time to request Jubilee, before the Fan Fest shows start airing in 2013! Programming may also be viewed on the Jubilee website at http://www.ket.org/jubilee/ .
