Making this album available as a free download is a great way to kickoff the band's 20th Anniversary Coast-to-Coast Celebration tour. This album was originally released nationwide on a well-respected bluegrass label in 2001 and is now out of print so digital download offers a great way to let fans hear some of James' music that they may have missed.

The CD features several original songs including “Coal Dust in My Soul” written by James Reams which was used in the film “Wake Up! West Virginia” about mountaintop removal. Other originals include the title track “Barnstormin’”, “The Cincinnati Southern”, “Dogwood Tree”, “Buffalo Creek Flood”, “Birch Brook Exit”, and “Kentucky River”.

Here are some comments from reviewers regarding the album.

Sing Out! Magazine raved, "Reams' commanding voice takes the listener all the way back to Kentucky, with an unaffected Monroe-style quality that bends to capture the mood of each selection."

And Bluegrass Unlimited praised it saying, "The Barnstormers are a thoroughly traditional bluegrass band; their original tunes and well-selected older pieces make no accom- modations for modern sounds - a plus!."
