40th Anniversary Telluride Festival Experiences Record Sell-Out!

SOME SINGLE-DAY PASSES STILL AVAILABLE!

Image634908170118275245Telluride Bluegrass Festival Four-day passes for 2013 sold out in a record three and a half hours last week — even before a single act was announced.  The festival plans to announce its preliminary lineup on Dec. 21, the winter solstice.

Last week’s unheard-of sell-out reflects a demand for Bluegrass tickets and at least a two-year trend for increased early ticket sales for Telluride.

Last year when tickets went on sale six months in advance of the festival, sales broke all records, surprising organizers,  long-time festival-goers and locals, forcing a ticket policy knee-jerk reaction from Planet Bluegrass. Four-day passes sold out in 18 days, long before they usually do.

In response to last year’s phenomenal early ticket sales , Planet Bluegrass moved its annual locals ticket sale a month earlier this year, parceled out single-day tickets via an online lottery for the first time ever at Telluride and even released 400 more passes for residents, enlarging its crowd capacity to make room.

The Telluride Town Council agreed to increase the maximum crowd size in Town Park from 11,500 to 12,000 for this year’s 40th anniversary festival. In addition, Planet Bluegrass restructured its ticket options by selling  passes to locals at a discount price during the month of November.  It was the first time ever that locals had purchase opportunities before other general public.

Planet Bluegrass didn’t do any marketing and went silent for four days leading up to the sale, hoping to see long-time festivarians get a fair chance at buying their passes. Planet Bluegrass prepared for two to three times the amount of demand as last year by doing major upgrades to its website and having its entire staff on hand to answer the phones.

Locals can volunteer for their passes but only those who can commit to all 4 days of the festival will be considered. Email volunteers@bluegrass.com to inquire about volunteer opportunities.

Festival dates: June 20-23, 2013
