Today is the day selected for the first International Bluegrass Music Appreciation Day. World-wide celebrations are taking place and special personal ways to commemorate and appreciate the style of music first popularized by Bill Monroe, Lester Flat and Earl Scruggs are occurring in very creative ways. 1787 - Pennsylvania became the second state to ratify the U.S. Constitution.
1917 – In Nebraska, Father Edward J. Flanagan founds Boys Town as a farm village for wayward boys.
