Some folks said the weather was near perfect this past weekend at the Colorado River Fairgrounds in Blythe, CA. Others said it was still a bit chilly after the sun went down.
Jeff Rose with the Detour Bluegrass Band from Michigan said "it's probably colder back home but not by much" as he hinted he was ready to find warmer accommodations than what was available from the wood fire cranking out heat for his fellow jammers Saturday evening.
But next day, all were bright and bubbly and cranking out jokes and remarkable bluegrass from their early morning set on the fairground's "Racetrack" Stage.
Enjoy some of these memories of the weekend captured by Judy Culley!
The three stand-out groups this weekend from the survey's we conducted among passersby traversing the pathway between the festival's two stages seemed to be: Detour, Marty Warburton & the Home Girls and the Bluegrass Martins with raving comments about all three. Many of the commenters were first time attendees at Blythe and others were attending a bluegrass festival for the first time anywhere but all said they intended on returning next year.
Festival promoter Larry Baker who promotes the Lake Havasu, Arizona (Bluegrass on the Beach, February 28-March 2, 2014) said he was particularly impressed with Detour. Dick Pierle, owner of Old Blue Sound remarked about how impressing Marty Warburton's sound was, pointing out that there was only a guitar and bass and three voices coming from the stage. He was right, it was impressive - song after song through out both of their stage shows on Sunday.
