West Virginia based band Circa Blue has released their second album "A Darker Blue."
The album, consisting of eight original tunes and five covers, follows their 2012 self titled debut.
"We're really pleased where the past two years have taken us musically," band leader Steve Harris said, "and we feel these songs reflect that maturity."
The 13 song selection runs a wide gamut from an up tempo original lamenting the rather recent economic downturn, to a slow bluesy version of Dark Hollow. In addition to Steve Harris, Ron Webb and Matt Hickman, Circa Blue's core members, the album lineup includes Marshall Wilborn (Lynn Morris, Jimmy Martin, The Johnson Mountain Boys, Hazel Dickens and more) on bass, Christopher Sexton (Nothin Fancy) on fiddles and viola, Gaven Largent on dobro and a couple of guest guitar tracks by Aaron Ramsey (Mountain Heart), who also produced the album. Harris told Prescription Bluegrass that a lot of thought went into this album, from the song selection to the recording, right down to getting a special photo session just for the album. "We're very detail oriented so we didn't want this to be something ordinary," said Harris. |
