Prescription Bluegrass has received verified information that George Shuffler an innovative bluegrass guitar player and an early practitioner of the crosspicking style who played with The Bailey Brothers, The Stanley Brothers and Ralph Stanley's Clinch Mountain Boys has died.
Bluegrass Radio Announcer, Dennis Jones said he spoke with George's brother just after noon today, Eastern time, who informed him of the news.
Prescription Bluegrass verified the news with Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese, NC. A spokesperson there confirmed his passing and that he is now in their care. Shuffler was a 2007 recipient of the North Carolina Heritage Award and in 2011 was elected to the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame.
He would have been 89 years old this coming Friday, April 11, 2014.
