IBMA Professional members are being notified that.....wait...haven't we heard this before? Yes, the answer is YES! Just a year ago the entire balloting was recalled due to some errors in the ballot.
http://www.prescriptionbluegrassblog.com/2013/07/ibma-ballots-recalled.html .
Today IBMA Voting members received the following message from Executive Director Nancy Cardwell:
It's come to our attention that a name was left off of the second ballot, in the "Dobro Player of the Year" category.
In order to consider all candidates fairly for this award, we ask you to cast your vote again for "Dobro Player of the Year." Please review the list on the ballot and select your top FIVE (5) picks. The previous Dobro votes on the 2nd round ballot that closed out August 1 will be discarded.
IN ORDER TO REGISTER YOUR CHOICES FOR THE DOBRO PLAYER OF THE YEAR NOMINATION, YOU MUST VOTE WITH THIS NEW BALLOT.
I regret that the error was made and that I have to draw your attention to it. A re-vote in the Dobro category (only) seemed the fairest option to remedy the situation. Steps have been taken to extend the review period (for staff and the Awards Eligibility Committee) between the first and second round ballots for the 2015 IBMA Awards, so you will not be receiving any messages like this again from me.
This has to be an extremely embarrassing message for Nancy since she also said that they regretted the incident last year which also occurred during the second round of balloting.
While this year's errors are limited to only the candidates in the Dobro Player of the Year and not the entire ballot as was the case last year, it still shows a trend into something that certainly needs to be fixed.
We applaud Nancy's efforts to correct the situation and make it right.
And we can only hope that the IBMA leadership and staff will seriously review the entire process and make a better showing in the future.
