Rodney Dillard has announced the addition of GARY SMITH to the DILLARDS band. Gary will be handling the doghouse bass.
"Gary brings to our table the warmest bass sounds and grooves AND an amazing and formidable list of musical accomplishments, from Jeff Gilkinson and Tom T. Hall to the Brother Boys, and more! I couldn't be happier to have Gary on this train!", said Rodney in a social media posting.
The current members of the Dillard Band are now: Rodney Dillard , Beverly Cotten-Dillard , Jeff Gilkinson , George Giddens , Ken Lingad and now, Gary Smith.
The Dillards, (AKA, The Darlings) band is seen nearly everyday somewhere in the world thanks to the still enormous popularity of the ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW reruns.
The Dillards originally consisted of Doug Dillard on banjo, Rodney Dillard playing the guitar, and dobro, Dean Webb on mandolin, and "Mitch" Jayne on double bass.
The Dillards are notable for being among the first bluegrass groups to have electrified their instruments in the mid-1960s.
They are considered to be one of the pioneers of the burgeoning southern California folk rock, country rock and progressive bluegrass genres, and are known to have directly or indirectly influenced artists such as The Eagles, The Byrds, and Elton John.
