Bluegrass icon Del McCoury, along with his family, visited Cumberland, MD this week to distribute checks to a number of local charitable organizations.
Funds came from revenues generated during the annual DelFest music festival at the Allegany County Fairgrounds.
The announcements were made during brief ceremonies held at the Western Maryland Station Center at Canal Place.
McCoury, a member of the International Bluegrass Hall of Fame, was a guest on an area radio station prior to the check presentations, saying that given how many worthy organizations there are in the area, it was a difficult challenge to select this year’s recipients. McCoury said it's hard, but they all get their heads together to decide who needs it most.
