WBCM Radio Bristol celebrates a revival of the classic live radio program Farm and Fun Time during Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion on Sunday, September 20 at 11:00 a.m. at the Birthplace of Country Music Museum.
Farm and Fun Time originally aired on Bristol's WCYB radio in the 1940s, 50s, and 60s.
Many of country music's biggest stars regularly performed on the original program including The Stanley Brothers, Flatt & Scruggs, Jim & Jesse, and more.
The Birthplace of Country Music first revived Farm and Fun Time during the Grand Opening of the museum in August 2014 with appearances by Dr. Ralph Stanley and Jesse McReynolds, among others.
“Radio Bristol looks forward to introducing Farm & Fun Time to audiences at Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion," said Tony Lawson, WBCM station manager. "Radio Bristol is an extension of the festival and our mission at the Birthplace of Country Music. It's also something festival goers can take home with them and listen to anytime online and through our app. Farm & Fun Time is an exciting part of our radio programming."
This second edition of Farm and Fun Time will be hosted by Red Knuckles and the Trail Blazers, with appearances by Hot Rize, Jim Lauderdale, and The Hello Strangers. The show will broadcast before a live audience on WBCM - LP at 100.1 FM and online at www.BirthplaceofCountryMusic.org.
Tickets to Farm and Fun Time are not included with the price of admission to Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion. Tickets to Farm and Fun Time are $25 per person. For more information about this event or any Birthplace of Country Music event, visit www.BirthplaceofCountryMusic.org.
About Hot Rize – Following their first concert in 1978, Hot Rize took the bluegrass world by storm, not only claiming the International Bluegrass Music Association’s very first Entertainers of the Year award, but receiving a nomination for a then-new bluegrass Grammy, a four-star album review in Rolling Stone, tours across four continents, and a legion of up-and-coming, broad-minded young musicians learning their songs and singing their praises. Following the release of their latest album When I’m Free in 2014, Hot Rize toured nationwide, pleasing not only longtime fans of the band, but countless new fans that’ve discovered bluegrass and Americana music in more recent times.
About Jim Lauderdale – Jim Lauderdale is a multiple Grammy and Americana Music Association Award-winning musician and is considered one of the most respected artists working the Americana, Bluegrass and Country music communities today. He first immersed himself in the early country music scenes of both New York City and Los Angeles before breaking through in Nashville as a songwriter. He has helped pave the way of the current Americana movement recording records and writing songs that cross genres from country, pop, roots, rock, soul and bluegrass.
About The Hello Strangers – The Hello Strangers were born out of the Austin, Texas music scene in 2006 when sisters Larissa Chace Smith and Brechyn Chace wrote their first song together, entitled “Pregnant in Jail.” Based on true events, it was a preamble to a string of original tunes the pair crafted in a little cottage off South Congress Avenue. Since then, the sisters have created a catalogue of original music with nods to American folk traditions, modern indie rock, Texas country-folk, and roots rock, all tied together with lilting harmonies. The sisters are supported by a dynamic and talented trio: Spencer Pheil on lead guitar, Trent Renshaw on drums, and Tom Hoy on bass.
About The Birthplace of Country Music – The Birthplace of Country Music (BCM) was established to preserve and promote the rich music heritage of our region. In 1998, the US Congress passed a bill that officially recognized Bristol as the Birthplace of Country Music. Through the Birthplace of Country Music Museum and its mission, the Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion music festival, WBCM Radio Bristol, and a multitude of community and educational outreach programs, BCM’s vision is to promote Bristol, Tennessee-Virginia as the Birthplace of Country Music.
