Balsam Range Supports the Fight to End Child Abuse!

Continuing their tireless commitment to charitable efforts both at home and across the country, multi-award winning band, Balsam Range, performed for a sold-out crowd at the supporting charitable recent 6th Annual Festival of Trees in Waynesville, NC. The benefit was held in support of KARE, an organization dedicated to ending child abuse.


In addition to performing, the band members autographed a mandolin for the auction, which raised more money this year than any previous year.

Balsam Range has raised more than a half a million dollars for various charities. The band was honored this year by both the House and Senate of the State of North Carolina for the band’s dedication to the preservation of the traditional music of the region, and also for its charitable efforts.

“There is simply no question of the importance of giving back to all of us,” says Tim Surrett. “We have been very blessed in our lives and our career, and if we can use those blessings to help others, well, we’re in.”

More than 150 businesses in Haywood County and beyond donated items for the auction and many individuals and businesses decorated Christmas trees as the focal point of the evening.

Founded in 1991, KARE was formed in response to Haywood County being ranked highest in the state of North Carolina for the incidence of child maltreatment.  KARE originally developed from a volunteer organization of collaborating professionals and community stakeholders seeking to enact a systematic approach to working with and for child victims of abuse. The KARE House welcomes monetary donations, which can be made in-person, by mail, or via Paypal through the KARE website.

The men of Balsam Range are looking forward to a little time off this holiday season; precious time at home with family. Their schedule in the new year picks up on January 2nd with the first show in their annual Winter Concert Series. The 2015 series raised tens of thousands of dollars for regional charities in the band’s home state. Held at the historic Colonial Theater in downtown Canton, NC, the 2016 series will include guest appearances by Rob Ickes, Trey Hensley and Bryan Sutton. Balsam Range is the 2015 International Bluegrass Music Association VOCAL GROUP OF THE YEAR. The band also won the IBMA SONG OF THE YEAR award for “Moon Over Memphis” from the album FIVE (Mountain Home Music Company).
