"Jacob has surrounded himself with excellent musicians on this
recording and his playing is strong and solid throughout, making it a wonderful
solo recording for a musician of any age. The fact that he is only 19 is a clear
indication that he has a very bright musical future in the world of bluegrass
music and I very much look forward to hearing his future contributions. Go
Jacob!" -Greg Cahill
Jacob took an early interest in music, learning
his first mandolin chords from his dad and beginning to sing on stage at age
three. After starting piano lessons at age five, he returned his focus to
mandolin and fiddle at age eight, soon picking up guitar and banjo as
well. Jacob now plays banjo with Bluegrass Express, which still includes
his father (Greg Underwood) and grandfather (Gary Underwood) who co-founded the
group in 1980.
THE
BANJO FILES, Jacob's second solo project,
is his first to feature all banjo tunes. The project features a wide
variety of material, including Jacob's original compositions, hymns, and tunes
that originated in genres not closely associated with the banjo, yet
consistently maintains the feel you would expect in a first-rate bluegrass banjo
album. It's fun and fresh, but always bluegrass.
