The festival, set for April 21-24, 2016, has put out a call for submissions of original songs to be featured throughout the four-day event.
Especially fun is the Front Porch Song Stroll, where 40 writers will be selected in pairs to showcase their tunes on Southport's historic front porches.
Songwriters are encouraged to submit entries in all roots music categories, including Bluegrass, Americana, Blues, Gospel, Jazz and General. For more information about the festival, visit

To enter your songs for consideration, send three songs via e-mail in MP3 format, a link to YouTube or other online video, plus a press kit with your name(s), lyrics, bio, and high-res photos tosouthportsongwriterfestival@gmail.com.
DEADLINE to enter is midnight EST January 15, 2016.
Selected writers may play solo, or choose one accompanying musician. Songs submitted must be performed by the vocalist who would perform at the festival if they are chosen. Songs will be judged and selected based on originality, form, and with the goal of creating a festival with a diversity of original roots music.
Participants in the Southport Songwriting Festival will have a variety of opportunities to share their craft with other songwriters and enthusiastic fans. Writers from all over the country will come to network, perform in intimate settings, vie for songwriting awards, and seize the chance to perform at an additional festival event with marketing benefits. Lodging for those writers selected will be complimentary.
Writers already accepted include Steve Bonafel (writer of "The Last Parade" as recorded by Joe Mullins & The Radio Ramblers) and two-time IBMA songwriter showcase presenter Teresa Neal.
The festival is hosted by the ScreenDoor Songwriter Alliance, founded by 3-time IBMA award-winner Louisa Branscomb. Louisa is a lauded talent for her extensive work, including the 2014 IBMA Song Of The Year award for her Claire Lynch co-write, “Dear, Sister.” Louisa also has written Grammy cuts for Alison Krauss and John Denver. She was the founding chair of the IBMA Songwriting Committee.
