As you may know, registration is now open for this year’s World of Bluegrass, and we are all very excited about the way the program is shaping up.   I thought I would take this opportunity to encourage you to participate in whatever way works best for you.

In response to the fact that many people found the event very expensive to attend, we are trying an experiment that unbundles several of our offerings, making registration more of an a la carte choice.
The only way that this can work financially for IBMA is if we can attract much larger numbers to offset any revenue that we may lose by people choosing far less expensive alternatives. Therefore, I am asking for your help.  If you feel that the new registration plan is a move in the right direction, we would very much appreciate it if you could convince as many people as you can that this is an affordable event that they cannot miss.
Also, along the same lines, we depend heavily on memberships to keep our activities afloat.  We could use some help in recruiting new members, and a personal invitation from you to some of your bluegrass associates would go a long way toward strengthening our numbers.
If you have attended the event in Nashville, you will understand why staying at the Renaissance is so desirable.  It is in the center of where the action is, and it makes attending late night showcases much easier since the commute is mostly an elevator ride.
We encourage you to stay at the Renaissance, if at all possible, since we have a room attrition clause in our contract that says that if we do not use our assigned room block, IBMA is on the hook for the shortfall.  Of course, the cost of a room at the Renaissance is not cheap.  One way to lower costs is to find a roommate.  I have been doing this for the last several years, and it works great.
We will offer a roommate matching service this year.  This was an idea that a member submitted through our suggestion box.  (For details, contact Jill Crabtree at jill@ibma.org)
