Wildwood Rose is a “10” for Janet McGarry

Image634811595512266187“Wildwood Rose” is the latest CD release from Janet McGarry. It is a special Anniversary edition which marks her 10th recording which is a very significant milestone.

Janet, who was honored with receiving her Masters in the Female Vocalist of the Year category by the Eastern Canadian Bluegrass Association, in addition to several other awards and nominations for her music, is now perhaps the most recorded solo artist in her genre in Canada.

Janet wanted a very special touch for this project. “For some time now, I’ve been wanting to record a project where I could have two of my dearest friends in bluegrass, Heather Berry-Mabe and Dale Ann Bradley, join me, and it all came together for this project”, says Janet. “These ladies are incredibly talented, we share a special kinship for great songs and vocal performances, and I am so proud to have them share in this project with me”.

The album debuts with a song penned especially for the project by Dixie and Tom T. Hall, called “The Old Guitar Case”. “We had been sharing with Tom T and Miss Dixie how we’ve been together in music for ten years, and how we’d be starting to work on our 10 cd recording a th nd they came up with this song, which sums up perfectly how we feel about our friends and our memories we’ve made through our music” says Janet.

The album is woven with themes of love, family, and faith, with a great mixture of songs near and dear to Janet’s heart, ranging from traditional bluegrass and gospel, several original songs, and even an old country classic “Apartment #9" made famous by Tammy Wynette - great duet performance by Janet and Dale Ann.

Roy Orbison’s “Evergreen” is dedicated to her husband Serge. “High Meadows” was written by Ivan Ashley from Elmsdale, PE and “Go Easy” is an up-tempo song co-written by Janet’s niece, Katie McGarry, which is already getting rave reviews.

Louisa Branscomb has contributed another great song called “Coal Dust Angel”, followed by the Vince Gill tribute song to his father called “Key to Life”.

Janet is also joined by the Park Royal United Church Choir for an outstanding version of “Near the Cross” .

This album was produced by Serge Bernard, of Diamond Productions PEI, and was mixed and mastered by Steve Gulley of The Curve Studio in Cumberland Gap, TN. Steve also contributes to the harmony vocals as well. Serge again handled much of the instrumentation, and is joined once again on this project by Troy Engle, from Nashville, TN. Troy has been a member of their recording team since their first collaboration back in 2007. In addition to Troy and Serge, Heather Berry-Mabe and Tony Mabe from North Carolina also join them on “Me and the Wildwood Rose”, playing autoharp and banjo.

Janet is busy again this summer performing throughout the Maritimes with her band “Wildwood”. Joined again this year by her husband, Serge, they have teamed up with the legendary Eddy Poirier, and his grandson, Bryan Poirier, from Moncton, NB. Together, they bring a special blend of traditional bluegrass music to audiences on the Maritime Bluegrass Festival Circuit plus other engagements throughout.
