Image634950539229075853Garden & Gun Magazine, based out of Charleston SC and covering "the best of the South, including the sporting culture, the food, the music, the art, the literature, the people and their ideas", is featuring Ralph Stanley in their latest issue, Feb/Mar 2013.

Author Dean King writes about Ralph's upbringing in coal-country southwestern Virginia, . . .

. . .his work with his brother Carter in the early days of The Stanley Brothers, how he tours today, and how even to this day, this "southern master" is still keeping true to his "old-time Appalachian roots". "I sing it the way I feel it," [Ralph] says. "No put-on to it. I just sing, and it's lonesome."

King also notes 5 "must-have" albums by Stanley (out of the 200 albums he's recorded during his career), 4 of them which are onRebel Records: Ralph Stanley & the Clinch Mountain Boys "Cry from the Cross" (REB-1499); "Clinch Mountain Gospel" (REB-1571); "Bound to Ride: Vintage Mountain Bluegrass" (REB-1114); and Ralph Stanley and Friends' "Clinch Mountain Country" (REB-5001).
