Smeltzer played mandolin with the Stoney Creek bluegrass band  from 2008 until early 2012 and in his words, “our ‘Hot Off The Press’ and “Live In Concert’ CDs were getting worldwide airplay….so when Libby (Files) approached me with the offer to rejoin the band, it was an easy decision to make.”

The band’s Libby Files who plays the  bass for the group made the announcement of Brett’s return in a press release posted on the Stoney Creek website.

Smeltzer said he was very eager to give it (broadcasting) a try. His first live broadcast of “Bluegrass Retrospect” aired on October 21, 2012. “I felt that I could ‘pay it forward’ and have area bluegrass talents aired as part of my show’s playlist. My show mixes vintage as well as new releases by mainstream and area bluegrass artists. As much as I enjoy my online DJing with the Bluegrass Mix, I still missed playing music.”

Smeltzer played on Stoney Creek's last three albums, including the 2012 gospel release "Are You Ready?".  The music video for the title track is airing on BlueHighways TV and is available online through YouTube and Yallwire. In addition to his work with Stoney Creek and Bluegrass Retrospect, Smeltzer also endorses David Mandolins. Smeltzer has recently begun hosting and emceeing bluegrass concerts.
