Registration for IBMA’s World of Bluegrass 2013 events – as well as hotel reservations – opens TODAY, March 1, 2013.
The five-day event, which takes place September 24-28, is bluegrass music’s annual industry gathering and family reunion, held for the first time in Raleigh, North Carolina. IBMA – the International Bluegrass Music Association – is the professional trade organization for the global bluegrass music community.
The business conference portion of World of Bluegrass 2013, Tuesday through Thursday, Sept. 24-26, will feature the best in bluegrass networking, showcasing and professional development, along with expanded showcase opportunities.
Through their partnership with The Greater Raleigh Convention & Visitors Bureau, PineCone—The Piedmont Council of Traditional Music, the City of Raleigh and a local organizing committee, there will be a pro-active effort to reach out to new attendees in the roots music community, as well as local bluegrass fans in the Carolina region.
The festival portion of World of Bluegrass – named “Wide Open Bluegrass” this year – will take place Friday and Saturday, Sept. 27-28.
Attendees and the general public will have the opportunity to hear a wide variety of bluegrass music, from traditional performers to edgy bands that may draw from old-time string band, progressive, classical and jamgrass influences. Wide Open Bluegrass will also feature a street fair with music stages, vendors, concessions, youth activities and the North Carolina Whole Hog Barbecue State Championship.
IBMA’s World of Bluegrass 2013 will be held at the Greater Raleigh Convention Center, the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts, and the Red Hat Amphitheater—all within easy walking distance of each other. Evening showcases will take place at the Raleigh Convention Center and at various venues in town.
Regular World of Bluegrass attendees will be pleased to learn that, in addition to opening ticket sales earlier this year, all tickets and hotel rates are lower than in recent years.
