Doyle officially formed his band during the first week in April 1979, and the group performed their first shows in early May, playing their first show at Buddy’s Barbeque in Knoxville on a Thursday night. They came back to the Down Home in Johnson City for a show on Friday evening, played Saturday afternoon at a Bluegrass Festival in Pickens, South Carolina, then came back to the Down Home in Johnson City for a show Saturday night, packing four performances into their very first weekend. Quicksilver’s first band consisted of Terry Baucum on banjo, Jimmy Haley on guitar, Lou Reid on bass, and Doyle on mandolin.

The current line-up of Quicksilver includes Jason Barie on fiddle, Joe Dean on banjo, Corey Hensley on bass, Mike Rogers on guitar, Josh Swift on dobro, and Doyle on mandolin. Doyle was named SPBGMA’s Mandolin Player of the Year on Sunday, February 3, the same day he celebrated his 50th Anniversary in music.
