RITA SMALL JOINS PRESCRIPTION BLUEGRASS CD REVIEW TEAM

Image635027582320237064Prescription Bluegrass is proud to announce the addition of broadcast veteran Rita Small to the talent line-up writing the CD Reviews for the Prescription Bluegrass Blog.

Rita has been co-host of the Cincinnati, Ohio radio show Bluegrass in the Valley for the past eight years. She enjoys bringing listeners a mixture of bluegrass, bluegrass gospel, and new acoustic music every Saturday morning from 8am-10am EST.

Prescription Bluegrass radio host and blog editor Brian McNeal says that Rita's broadcaster perspective will be a welcome addition to the mix of opinions already in the corral. “The Prescription Bluegrass CD Reviews have been written so far by recording and performing musicians, so having a radio person join us will surely bring something new and different,” McNeal added, “simply because radio people listen to a lot of music that the average person never hears. So by comparison they have a great foundation by which to base their opinions.”

Rita’s musical background began when she started playing piano at the age of nine and her love of music developed from there. An avid fan of all musical genres, Rita was introduced to bluegrass over ten years ago when she went to work at The Flooring Center as the office manager. Local bluegrass musician Tim Strong was also working there and would occasionally fill-in at the radio station as a guest programmer. One day he invited Rita to join him. Within a few months, Tim was offered a show on WAIF and he asked Rita to co-host. After some coaxing, she agreed and a new radio show in Cincinnati was born. Listeners comment that they enjoy hearing the banter between the two and the knowledge surrounding the artists they share with the audience.

Rita has had the honor of interviewing such bluegrass artists as Russell Moore, Joe Mullins, Nothin’ Fancy, Tammy Rogers of The SteelDrivers, Frank Solivan, Ralph Stanley II, Missy Werner, and Chris West of Blue Moon Rising, among others.

Over the past years, Rita has immersed herself even deeper in bluegrass. She has spent countless hours researching groups, attending shows, programming music, and learning the history behind the music. Rita has the unique ability to pick out a hidden gem – be it on a project or an undiscovered group. She enjoys searching out new music and finding distinctive sounds. While Rita enjoys the new acoustic sound, she has learned the true value of classic bluegrass music.

The Prescription Bluegrass Blog is part of the Prescription Bluegrass Media family which includes the syndicated radio show by the same name and a twice weekly radio news broadcast for the bluegrass community which is syndicated around the world.
