Prescription Bluegrass has learned of the passing of Myron Dillman age, 79.
Mr. Dillman was known simply as "Mr. D" to the many friends, fans and greater family of the Bean Blossom festival. It was a nickname most likely begun by Dr. Ralph Stanley for whom Dillman was a fiddle player for some 30 plus years.
Dillman passed away at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis Sunday November 3, 2013. Viewing is scheduled for Thursday, November 7 from 1-7pm with funeral services on Friday, November 8 at 10am at Flowers Leedy Funeral home in Peru, IN.
He was the father of Dwight & Tim Dillman and for years was a staple at the festival, driving the water truck to keep the dust down and delivering ice.
Tom Feller of Feller & Hill and The Bluegrass Buckaroos, says that "Mr. Dillman was single-handedly responsible for saving the longest running bluegrass festival in the country, as he was father to Dwight Dillman, who purchased the park and made major improvements, in 1998."
Dillman spent many years playing fiddle on and off with Dr. Ralph Stanley's Clinch Mountain Boys. "I don’t know that Dr. Ralph has ever known a greater fan of his music than Mr. D," said Tom Feller.
