Behind the Mic is a new weekly feature on Bluegrass Today and Prescription Bluegrass Radio host Brian McNeal was asked to be the first subject of their salute to the broadcasters that help them compile their weekly bluegrass radio airplay charts.
Feature writer John Goad says it's their way of providing a small thanks for the help the many broadcasters provide on a weekly basis.
The Bluegrass Today weekly and monthly charts are highly respected in the bluegrass industry and word from Goad is that they take it very seriously and are always looking for ways to sharpen the point and improve the methodology.
Behind the Mic's goal is to give Bluegrass Today readers a chance to get to know a bit more about the folks spinning the tunes that you see reported on the weekly and monthly charts. Goad told Prescription Bluegrass the selection of who get's featured and when is done by a random numbering system.
Over 125 radio stations and programs report weekly the artists and song titles of new music they spin on the air. New music is defined by the chart as released within the last 18 months.
Goad said they're always looking for more reporting stations but there is quite a validation process that they go through in order to keep the integrity of the charts. Bluegrass Radio programmers who are interested in becoming a reporting station should complete the questionnaire and Bluegrass Today will take it from there.
