As part of its 2015 The Road South campaign, Belk, the nation's largest family owned and operated department store, announced today its second year of the Southern Musician Showcase.
The Showcase will promote Southern musicians by offering them a chance to win a cash prize and an opportunity to perform at major fashion, sports and music events, a performance wardrobe and stylist provided by Belk and an opportunity for their songs to be featured in Belk television commercials.
"Music is fundamental to the Southern lifestyle, and has an incredible influence on fashion," says Jon Pollack, Belk's executive vice president of marketing, sales promotion and eCommerce. "The Showcase will give us the chance to highlight musicians from the South or influenced by the South, and to give them the opportunity of a lifetime. We look forward to partnering with this year's Southern musicians and building off the successes of last year's competition."
The Southern Musician Showcase is open to solo artists and bands in the Americana, Pop Country, Pop, Blues and Bluegrass genres. Contestants are asked to submit three to five original songs, a brief biography that details their affiliation to the South, high resolution photos and a video performance. Submissions will be submitted through December 31, 2014 at www.belk.com/music .
Through ReverbNation submissions, a team of music industry professionals, celebrity musicians and Belk executives will select 40 semi-finalists to audition live January 2015 in four cities across the South. Based on their auditions, finalists will be chosen to perform at select events throughout the Southeast, beginning with the Southern Musician Showcase Finale in Charlotte.
