IBMA award-winning bluegrass group, Balsam Range, will be hosting their final Winter Series concert on Saturday, April 4th at the Historic Colonial Theatre in Canton, NC.
Balsam Range has graciously selected the Haywood County Foster Care program to raise support and awareness for foster children in Haywood County.
Currently, the Haywood County Health and Human Services Agency has the responsibility of over 100 foster care children in the program. Child abuse, neglect or dependency – no matter what the reason – entering foster care is very traumatic for any child and for their family. In most instances, they have only the clothes on their backs while transitioning into a new home.
There are also times when a child is placed outside of the community due to a lack of appropriate family resources or available foster homes in Haywood County. *
All sponsorships for the April 4th concert will go toward clothing items, school supplies and sports and extracurricular activities for the program.
Monetary donations are always accepted at Haywood County Foster Care 157 Paragon Parkway Clyde, NC 28721. For the concert sponsorship level information, please contact Jeanne Naber at (828)356-2442 or jnaber@haywoodnc.net.
According to the note from the band's Tim Surrett, sent to Prescription Bluegrass along with the press release, not one dime from these donations will go to Balsam Range. This is typical of the band's attitude toward giving back to their community.
In just the last few months, they have been involved in raising over one hundred thousand dollars for several charities, including Meals On Wheels, Head Start, and Haywood Hungry Kids Manna Backpack Program, The Kare Program, and more.
In 2011, Balsam Range won the International Bluegrass Music Award’s song of the year for “Trains I Missed”. In 2013, the band won the prestigious IBMA Album of the Year for their CD “Papertown”.
They have five consecutive months at #1 on the Bluegrass Unlimited National Airplay Album Chart, eight National #1 songs including “Last Train to Kitty Hawk”, “Caney Fork River”, “Trains I Missed”, “Gonna Be Movin’”, “Row by Row”, “I Could Do You Some Good”, “Any Old Road”, and “Moon Over Memphis”.
Balsam Range holds the 2014 International Bluegrass Music Association’s honors as ENTERTAINERS OF THE YEAR, VOCAL GROUP OF THE YEAR, with Buddy Melton receiving MALE VOCALIST OF THE YEAR, and Tim Surrett receiving the IBMA MENTOR AWARD.
