A Life-Size Statue of Doc Watson Playing His Guitar!
The unveiling Friday will mark more than a year of planning, preparations and fund-raising to honor the legendary folk/bluegrass artist in downtown Boone, NC where he often sat and picked his guitar as a young man in real life. As a young and struggling artist, Doc Watson spent many days performing for tips at storefronts in Boone NC. and other nearby towns. There will be a plaque on the bench according to Doc’s wishes that will say, “Doc Watson – Just one of the people”
The Boone Downtown Development Association invites the public to join them in Downtown Boone on Friday, June 24 from 5-7pm for a very special Concert on the Lawn.
On that evening, Deep Gap's own Doc Watsonwill be honored and saluted with the unveiling of a bronze statue on thecorner of King and Depot Streets right across the street from where hegot his musical start. In celebration, a number of individuals who have
played with Doc will be performing on the lawn at the Jones House, including David Holt, Charles Welch, Wayne Henderson, Clint Howard, and Herb Key, along with local favorite Creekside Grass and others.
