The Tennessee Board of Probation and Parole today officially denied parole to one of the men responsible for the death of a Grand Old Opry star and his wife almost 38 years ago.
John Brown and his cousin, Doug, shot and killed Dave "Stringbean" Akeman and his wife, Estelle, at their Ridgetop, TN, home in 1973.
"Stringbean" was a long-standing member of the Grand Ole Opry and had a recurring role on the television comedy hour "Hee Haw."
Estelle Akeman was shot in the back and head as she was trying to run away.
Brown told the board at a hearing last month he accepts full responsibility for killing the Akemans.
He told the parole board it was an "unthinkable and atrocious crime."
This was the fourth parole review for Brown, and the case will next be heard in April 2014.
Brown’s wife granted her only interview in 34 years just a little over a month ago.
