COME HOME TO BLUEGRASS SONGWRITING CONTEST WINNERS ANNOUNCED

The Ohio County Tourism Commission in Hartford, Ky., announces the winners of the first ever “Come Home to Bluegrass” Songwriting Contest in honor of the upcoming celebration of Bill Monroe's 100 Birthday in 2011.

Monroe, who was born in Rosine, is widely recognized as the "Father of Bluegrass Music." Plans are in the works to celebrate what would have been his 100th birthday on September, 13, 2011.  Included in those plans is a musical celebration at Monroe's homeplace.

The entries were judged on content of lyrics, music and originality. Instrumentally and lyrically, the song had to represent the traditional Bluegrass music style of Bill Monroe.
Mr. David Cooper of Conway, South Carolina was the recipient of first place award with his song Old Roman Soldier.  He was also awarded second place with Wealth of a Fool.  Mr. Michael Jones of Elizabethtown, Kentucky was the recipient of the third place award with his song The Ghost of Mr. Bill.  LISTEN TO A SAMPLE OF “MR.
