The DC Bluegrass Union is accepting entries for the Hazel Dickens Song Contest from now until Jan. 5.
Prizes will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners with the top prize being $500. A 3-judge panel of bluegrass/songwriting industry leaders will judge the entries.
MerleFest, has begun accepting entries for the Chris Austin Songwriting Contest this month and will continue until February 2017.
The Chris Austin Songwriting Contest is one of the most acclaimed songwriting contests in roots and Americana music and has a reputation for launching careers and discovering important new talent.

The 2014 John Hartford Memorial Festival (JHMF) Songwriting Contest has begun accepting entries, marking the start of its second year inspiring songwriters to go where they haven’t gone before.
The songwriting contest is a little different than most, as it takes part in ensuring the legacy of John Hartford continues and thrives. Contest winners are awarded with a main stage performance and free 3-day festival ticket.
Longtime California-based songwriter and bandleader Kathy Kallick, award-winning young songwriter Kelsi Harrigill with the new band Flatt Lonesome; and Wayne Taylor, the band leader of Appaloosa, will co-host the IBMA Songwriter Showcase at World of Bluegrass, scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 26 from 1-2 p.m.at the Raleigh Convention Center in Raleigh, N.C.
Asheville, NC - John Cloyd Miller won first place in the 21st annual Chris Austin Songwriting Contest in the bluegrass category at MerleFest 2013.
Miller is a vocalist, guitarist and mandolin player for the Asheville-based band, Red June, a nationally touring acoustic Americana trio that includes his wife, fiddler and vocalist Natalya Weinstein, and multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Will Straughan. The winning song, “Cloud of Dust,” appears on Red June’s 2012 release, Beauty Will Come.
