Arizona’s Muskellunge Release Fourth CD Today!

Image635059277228637917Flagstaff based Nolan McKelvey and Muskellunge today have released their fourth CD as a band.

OVER THE DIVIDE features more original tunes from lauded songwriter Nolan McKelvey. Muskellunge has a modern folk-grass sound that is not defined by one or the other. High energy tunes with lyrical depth beyond most in this genre. If you like good lyrics, you'll like this disc.

Backed by a high energy, seasoned crew. The band includes mandolin whiz, Aaron Tyler, banjo ace Frank Dedera, the singular drum of phenom Ron James, and the creative and melodic Tim Hogan on the Muskellunge bass. It's a unique blend of modern and poignant lyrics and old-sounding instrumentation.

Nolan McKelvey moved back to Arizona from Boston in 2005 after being dubbed "Central to the Somerville (Boston) roots revival" (WBUR Boston) and quickly formed Muskellunge.

Over the course of his twenty year career he has performed at the Newport Folk Festival, Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Cambridge Folk Festival, Pickin in the Pines Festival, and many more. Nolan's band won a Boston Music Award for "best folk act", and he has performed on nationally syndicated "Nashville Bluegrass Breakdown" and "World Cafe" radio shows.

Nolan has been dubbed "One of the best songwriters of the Southwest" (FlagLive!), and was elected "Best Musician in Flagstaff" by the Arizona Daily Sun Reader's Poll in 2010.

His studio credits include recording with Levon Helm (The Band), Casey Driessen (Steve Earle/Jerry Douglas), Rashad Eggleston (Crooked Still), Jennifer Kimball (The Story, Wayfaring Strangers) among many others. Nolan’s songs have appeared on 14 CDs to date.

The band will be supporting the new CD with live performances and CDs at the Merchandise tables at the following:

The CD is also available from Nolan’s website: http://www.nolanmckelvey.com/store  and the band will be performing at their hometown festival, Flagstaff Friends of Traditional Music’s PICKIN’ IN THE PINES in mid September where they’re sure to have plenty of CDs for sale and autographs.
