Not even a full year into their new bluegrass format, WMAK, Lobelville, TN has decided bluegrass has bombed in their market.
The station will be reverting back to a Rock & Roll Oldies format called CLASSIC GOLD and will feature music from the 1950s to the 1970s.
The announcement was made Wednesday this week on the station's Facebook page:
"After conducting local market research, we've decided to follow the outcome of that research and drop the bluegrass format on WMAK effective next week! Solid Gold 16 WMAK will return playing oldies from the 50's to the 70's. We apologize, and while we enjoyed the format, we just couldn't make it work. Alan Kabel will remain in mornings, and we have a special surprise of another legendary radio host forthcoming! We thank you for listening and understand if you choose to drop off this Facebook page."
WMAK made their switch to an all bluegrass 24/7 radio station with a great deal of fanfare immediately after finishing the 2013 Christmas seasonal music.
The news this week, of the format change back to oldies, comes as quite a shock. Just a few months ago, station owner Chris Lash told us, "I'm dedicated to the bluegrass format..."
The station had been carrying THE PRESCRIPTION BLUEGRASS RADIO program every Saturday afternoon at 1pm CT. Listeners looking for a replacement for the lost program can check the Prescription Bluegrass web page ...
