Sweetwater String Band is a high energy, cello-driven bluegrass band that delivers soulful lyrics and boot stompin' original tunes.
River of Rhymes released in June, 2014, features all new original songwriting from Sweetwater String Band. The album navigates through a mosaic of introspective revelations, vivid natural imagery, political commentary, and even a tribute to the late Doc Watson.
Formed in 2008 in the small mountain town of Mammoth Lakes (California), their music is inspired by the wild deserts and high mountains of the west. The band quickly established roots and a fan base, and recent tours have now taken them further afield to clubs and festival stops throughout the mountainous west including Durango Bluegrass Meltdown, Humboldt Hills Hoedown, Millpond Music Festival, Northstar Beerfest and Bluegrass, Tahoe's Telegrass, and June Lake Mountian Music Festival. During that time, they've performed with New Riders of the Purple Sage, Grant Farm, Cornmeal, and Dead Winter Carpenters among others.
"Sweetwater String Band seems to pluck the very soul of the Sierra when they hit the stage with their innovative take on string music...this string quartet gives new meaning to a string quartet. With 5 years of hardcore plucking under their belts, these guys are true professionals, blending the power of string music to enlighten and invigorate us with the kind of high energy that gets us all moving."
