Virginia Designates SONG OF THE MOUNTAINS as "Official State Television Series"

The PBS television series, Song of the Mountains, upon signature of the Governor, will become the "State Television Series" of Virginia.

Last Thursday, the Virginia State Senate passed a bill to add the bluegrass concert TV program to Virginia's official list of emblems and designations. The measure was approved by the House of Delegates on Jan. 25.

"This designation is a tremendous honor for all of us involved with Song of the Mountains", said Tim White, the host and executive coordinator of the concert series since it started in 2005. "We have a great crew and wonderful hard working volunteers that make this happen. The musicians who have performed on our program have been fantastic as well".

Song of the Mountains is based at the historic Lincoln Theatre in Downtown Marion, VA. The show first taped twelve episodes back in 2005 and started with a meager 3 affiliates. Thirteen years later the show has produced two hundred fifty two episodes and is show seen on approximately 190 affiliates nationwide with a potential reach of 130 million viewers.

Shows are taped monthly at the Lincoln Theatre featuring bluegrass, Americana, old time, gospel, country and Celtic bands and artists. Concerts are typically taped the first Saturday of each month. The next Song of the Mountains taping will be on Saturday, March 4, 2017 and will feature John Cowan with Darin and Brooke Aldridge. John Cowan also performs regularly with the Doobie Brothers.
