Image634775168069250701Happy (belated) 83rd Birthday to Bluegrass Hall of Famer Jesse McReynolds (July 9).

Here he is with fellow Hall of Famer and old friend, Curly Seckler, at a birthday party  held at the Pick Inn, in Gallatin, Tenn.

Jesse McReynolds, along with his late brother Jim McReynolds, formed the bluegrass band Jim and Jesse in approximately 1947.  In 2002, both brothers were diagnosed with different types of cancer. Happy Birthday Doc Watson

he got the nickname "Doc" during a live radio broadcast when the announcer remarked that his given name Arthel was odd and he needed an easy nickname to go by. A fan in the crowd shouted "Call him Doc!" presumably in reference to the Sherlock Holmes sidekick Doctor Watson. The name stuck ever since ...
(from Wikipedia) Arthel Lane "Doc" Watson (born March 3, 1923) is an American guitar player, songwriter and singer of bluegrass, folk, country, blues and gospel music. He has won seven Grammy awards as well as a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Watson's flatpicking skills and knowledge of traditional American music are highly regarded.  Here he picks a well known bluegrass standard, "Don't Let Your Deal Go Down".

Beginning in 1957, Bill Emerson established himself as a banjo virtuoso and history maker alike! A founding member of the famed bluegrass ensemble "The Country Gentlemen", billed as a featured artist while with "Jimmy Martin" during the height of that bluegrass legend's career, the man who introduced the classic "Fox on the Run" to bluegrass, founder and shaper of "Country Current" the world renowned bluegrass ensemble of the United States Navy Band.
