For the first time in 30 years, Pete Wernick (Dr. Banjo) will not be hosting winter banjo camps in Boulder Colorado. Instead, he will offer a new kind of bluegrass camp focusing on ensemble playing and skills.
Due to Hot Rize’s intensive touring schedule in 2015, he will limit his teaching to four annual camps, in Boulder, Colorado; Santa Cruz, California; Merlefest in North Carolina; and on Lake George in New York.
His thirst for bettering the bluegrass world is never really quenched. Teacher, professional guitarist, studio and record label owner Stephen Mougin has accepted a position as the new director for The Renaissance Bluegrass Band at Bethel University in McKenzie, Tennessee, effective August 1.
Since offering the original “banjo camp” in 1984, Pete “Dr. Banjo” Wernick has conducted nearly a hundred of them, hosting over 1,500 students from around the world.
In January 2013 he will host his 29th annual winter camps at the Boulder Inn in Boulder, Colorado.
The camp consists of three “full-immersion” weeks: Basic Skills, Intermediate, and Advanced. Complete information is found on www.DrBanjo.com.
