WSVS becomes a working Museum

An announcement from Penny Parsons who is on the board of the Virginia Museum of Radio Entertainment:

We are working to turn WSVS 800 AM into a working museum and have it designated as a historic landmark.  We are partnering with the school systems in the area to do an ongoing concert series, which will involve students in learning about traditional music and the music business in general.  WSVS is the historic station where Jody Rainwater was a DJ for 20 years, and where Flatt & Scruggs were based in 1954.  WSVS programs bluegrass every weekday from 3:00 to 6:00pm, and we have live bands play on the air on Saturdays on the High Noon Hoedown show.  To our knowledge, WSVS is the only radio station of its kind in Virginia today.

We have booked Big Country Bluegrass for our fall fund raising concert in November. Their new CD and the song "The Boys In Hats And Ties" fit perfectly with our mission to preserve, promote, and honor the history of bluegrass and its first generation pioneers. The new Big Country Bluegrass CD is getting heavy airplay on WSVS.  We hope you will visit the station's website: www.wsvsam.com and listen to the Bluegrass Depot program.
