Notes about some of the featured artists with links to websites:

Sam Bush
Image634491631444710000Grammy Award winning multi-instrumentalist Sam Bush is coming to Pickin’ in the Pines for the first time! Alternately known as the King of Telluride and the King of Newgrass, Bush has been honored by the Americana Music Association and the International Bluegrass Music Association. Sam Bush has helped to expand the horizons of bluegrass music, fusing it with jazz, rock, blues, funk and other styles. He's the co-founder of the genre-bending New Grass Revival and an in-demand musician who has played with everyone from Emmylou Harris and Bela Fleck to Charlie Haden, Lyle Lovett and Garth Brooks. And though Bush is best known for jaw-dropping skills on the mandolin, he is also a three time national junior fiddle champion and Grammy award winning vocalist. Website: http://www.sambush.com/
David Grisman Sextet
Image634491632067100000David Grisman wowed the crowd at the 2007 Pickin’ in the Pines. We can’t wait to hear what he has in store for us this time! For nearly half a century; mandolinist, composer, bandleader, and producer David Grisman has been a guiding force in the evolving world of acoustic music. His musical range is wide and deep; embracing many styles, genres and traditions. An acoustic pioneer and innovator, David forged a unique personal artistic path, skillfully combining elements of the great American music/art forms — jazz and bluegrass with many international flavors and sensibilities to create his own distinctive idiom — “Dawg” music (the nickname given him by Jerry Garcia.) He has deeply influenced contemporary acoustic practitioners through his own musical explorations and we are thrilled he’s coming back to Pickin’ in the Pines with the David Grisman Sextet! Michael Cleveland and Flamekeeper
Image634491632786960000Award-winning fiddler Michael Cleveland brings dynamic traditional bluegrass to the stage with his award-winning band, Flamekeeper, in a show that will be sure to keep the Pickin’ in the Pine’s audience talking. An eight-time winner of the International Bluegrass Music Association's Fiddle Performer of the Year award, Mike and his talented band present a program of tight vocal trios and duos, blistering instrumentals, and fiddle-and-banjo duets that echo the first-generation stars of bluegrass. Considered one of the premier bluegrass fiddlers of his generation, the show is rounded out with Mike's dry wit and the band's sense of fun. Website: http://www.flamekeeperband.com/

The HillBenders
Image634491633859230000The HillBenders have been winning over audiences from coast to coast with their unique style, original compositions and relentless drive. These buzz-worthy bluegrass whiz-kids are gaining international recognition for their aggressive combination of contemporary influences with traditional inspiration and instrumentation, as well as their infectiously energetic stage performances. Rooted in the traditions of bluegrass, The HillBenders push the boundaries of the genre by combining influences from country, rock, blues, jazz and Americana into their sound to produce something entirely new. The Blue Canyon Boys
Image634491634334650000The Blue Canyon Boys have quickly earned the reputation as one of the premier bluegrass bands of the Rocky Mountain Region. Blending incredible brother-duet-style vocals and hard driving instrumental proficiency; this energetic band drives audiences to their feet and leaves them asking for more! From the first sound of the hard-driving banjo to the final rumble of the doghouse base; The Blue Canyon Boys are sure to entertain and energize! Website: http://www.bluecanyonboys.com/home.html

Honey Don’t
Image634491634867530000Honey Don’t is the musical union of Bill Powers and Shelley Gray. Many folks may know this duo as one half of the beloved old time bluegrass band from Colorado, Sweet Sunny South (PIP favorites of 2007). The band’s old-time and bluegrass roots are exposed but there is something more to the sound that crosses genres and stakes a claim for wider appeal.
