FREE ADMISSION TO US VETERANS AND SPOUSES!
With a goal to support the future of bluegrass music, the first annual “Bluegrass on the Plains” Festival hosted by University Station RV Resort is scheduled for May 23-27, 2012 in Auburn, Alabama.
The event will also honor U.S. veterans and their spouses with free 5-day admission.
Bluegrass on the Plains has been a “bucket list” goal of University Station RV Resort owner Mathan Holt for a long time. “Our 500 lot, full hook-up, full service facility was created for events like Bluegrass on the Plains,” Holt said. “My wife Jill and I think this is the perfect setting for bluegrass music, and we can’t wait to introduce the first band to you on May 23!”
The festival will begin on Wednesday, May 23 at 6-11 p.m., continuing Thursday – Saturday, May 24-26 from noon – 11 p.m. Music on Sunday will run from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. On Friday and Saturday the festival will feature free workshops from 10-11 a.m. and an Arts & Crafts Show from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
An All-Star line-up includes: Rhonda Vincent and the Rage; Carl Jackson, Jerry Salley & Larry Cordle; Rodney Dillard Band (as seen on The Andy Griffith Show); Little Roy & Lizzy Show; Marty Raybon; Darrell Webb Band; Gary Waldrep Band; Blue Moon Rising; Nothin’ Fancy; Volume Five; Cumberland River; Kelli Johnson & Sweetwater; Heather & Shannon Slaughter & County Clare; Randy & Sherri Miller; Stacy Grubb; Cedar Rock; Eastwind; The Moron Brothers and The Bailey Mountain Cloggers. 
The Festival Will Be Held in Alumni Park @ University Station RV Resort. The majority of the festival will be held in the evening. The Festival Starts @ Wed evening @ 6 PM til 11 PM, Noon on Thus, Fri & Sat until 11 PM. Sun is from 9 AM - 2 PM. There will be a shade covering for those who can not sit in the sun. All of the park has shade some of the time. The outer areas have shade all of the day. All of the park is in the shade by 4 PM. The picture at the right was shot at 4pm.
About the promoter:
Traveling to singing schools in rural churches across southern Alabama with his father, who worked for Stamps-Baxter Music Company, grew Mathan's love for music and harmony at a very early age. Singing with his father's gospel band at the age of ten lead to Mathan taking up the guitar at sixteen and forming his own bluegrass band at the age of nineteen. Between listening to Flatt and Scruggs and the Grand Ole Opry every Saturday night on the radio a heart for the authentic tones of the bluegrass sounds was born. The pure authentic origins of bluegrass music are character qualities reflected in the hearts of all loyal bluegrass fans, like Mathan, who just love the integrity of the sounds of the roots of bluegrass.
