Roe Entertainment recently added Detour to its roster of excellent award-winning bands.
Detour is a "bluegrass powerhouse" that features heartfelt originals, tightly focused harmonies, and high-steppin' instrumentals from a superbly talented sextet of veterans of Michigan's bluegrass scene.
"Quarterline Road," the kick-off tune from the group's latest CD, A Better Place, has spent two weeks at number 1, one week at number two and one at number 3 on the BluegrassToday.com's weekly airplay chart since its mid-June release; the album is now in the top 50 of Roots Music Report's national folk/bluegrass charts.
The band’s lineup features the powerful lead vocals of Missy Armstrong, the championship fiddling of Peter Knupfer, the inventive rhythm lines of Jack Grant on bass, the soulful guitar of Scott Zylstra, the hard driving mandolin and superb song writing of Jeff Rose, and the stellar banjo playing of Kevin Gaugier.
Detour has quickly become a standout—“a bluegrass joyride” that the Lansing State Journal acclaims as “perhaps the best bluegrass band Michigan has yet produced.”

Jim Roe of Roe Entertainment says he met Jeff Rose and Missy Armstrong several years ago at IBMA’s World of Bluegrass (WOB) and spent a little bit of time chatting with Jeff and Missy at following WOB events every year since and they have become good friends. “After the 2011 WOB Missy sent me some roughs on a few cuts that were going to be coming out on Detour’s new CD A Better Place,” Roe recalls. “I was truly blown away from the first listen and have been in touch with them ever since.
When I saw the radio airplay immediately take off on ‘Quarterline Road’ I made plans to see the entire band perform live and again I was blown away. They are the complete package on and off the stage. They have great material and arrangements on their originals and covers. They have been playing predominantly in the Midwest the past several years, mostly in Michigan, but they are ready to go coast to coast now and I don’t think a detour will stop them from doing it.”
