25 Year Festival May Not Continue

Image634925544422779097According to the Canadian Bluegrass dot com website, the Chilliwack Arts Council has decided not to put on a 26th Chilliwack Bluegrass Festival.

They are changing directions; setting new sails; changing venues and re-establishing priorities, which means no bluegrass festival on the Labour Day weekend of 2013.

Just a few months ago they celebrated 25 years of putting on one of the longest running internationally recognized festivals west of the Canadian Shield.  According to organizer Rod Hudson the event had strong support from the community and from it’s numerous volunteers.

The Arts Council Board of Directors have announced that they will be moving their base of operations from the Chilliwack Cultural Centre early in the New Year. In order to properly serve the community and not duplicate the programs and services delivered by other arts groups, the Arts Council has decided that a move to a facility on the South side of the freeway was in order. Plans are already being put in place and soon a new location will be announced. The Board of Directors and the staff of the Arts Council are excited about the changes and the opportunities that will be available in the Sardis/Vedder corridor.

Our attempts to reach anyone at the Chilliwack Arts Council for comment were not successful by press deadline but an update to this post will be forthcoming if the council makes a public statement.
