The full schedule of artists and performances for the free Street Festival portion of the the IBMA’s Wide Open Bluegrass, to be held on September 27th and 28th, in Raleigh, NC has just been announced.
The list includes a broad mix of local, national and international bluegrass talent.

The two-day Wide Open Bluegrass Festival is part of IBMA’s annual World of Bluegrass event: bluegrass music’s annual industry gathering and family reunion. Held for the first time in Raleigh, North Carolina, World of Bluegrass runs from September 24-28. The International Bluegrass Music Association – IBMA – is the professional trade organization for the global bluegrass music community.
“With the combination of music on Wide Open Bluegrass ticketed stages, free to the public Street Fest stages, Bluegrass Ramble venue stages, and the Masters Workshop Stage, Raleigh, NC will offer the most bluegrass notes per square inch on the planet September 27-28,” said IBMA Executive Director Nancy Cardwell. “And don’t forget the multitude of jamming opportunities!”
The PNC-presented free Wide Open Street Fest, held in downtown Raleigh along Fayetteville Street, will feature more than 50 bands, three music stages, a dance tent, and a special youth stage near the Convention Center that will feature performances and activities from the future stars of bluegrass - including programming set up by IBMA’s Youth Council. Additionally, the Street Festival will contain vendors, concessions, an Exhibit Hall and a Masters Workshop Stage in the Raleigh Convention Center.
Adding to the excitement of the free Street Festival is the North Carolina Whole Hog Barbecue State Championship—a weekend of bluegrass-flavored fun for the whole family. The Pork Council will make a contribution of up to $10,000 in barbecue sales income to IBMA. More details about this event can be found at www.ncpork.org .
The free Wide Open Street Fest is one of several ways that music fans can experience bluegrass in Raleigh the weekend of September 27-28: in addition to the free Street Fest stages, there are ticketed shows which take place at the Red Hat Amphitheater and inside the Raleigh Convention Center. While reserved tickets for both Friday and Saturday’s shows at the Red Hat Amphitheater are sold out, general admission tickets for that venue are still available, and can be purchased at ETix.com or www.ibma.org.
Fans can also attend the “Bluegrass Ramble” showcases all weekend, in six venues throughout downtown Raleigh, 10 pm-2 am: The Lincoln Theatre, Long View Center, Pour House Music Hall, Tir Na Nog, Kings, The Architect Bar & Social Club.
D’Addario Strings is the national sponsor for the ticketed portion of IBMA’s Wide Open Bluegrass festival; half of the proceeds will go to the Bluegrass Trust Fund, which helps members of the bluegrass music community in times of emergency need. The remaining proceeds help IBMA with marketing and professional development efforts throughout the year.
