Shelby, NC to Open Earl Scruggs Center

Image635137054634841076January 11th, 2014 is the day slated to cut the ribbon on the Grand Opening of the Earl Scruggs Center in Shelby, North Carolina, the home of the legendary banjo player.

The Grand Opening will come nearly 2 years after the death of Scruggs who’s rapid fire bluesy approach to picking solidified the sound known today as Bluegrass Music.

The Earl Scruggs Center: Music and Stories from the American South will open January 11, 2014 with a dedication, music, a ribbon cutting, open house and a star-packed (stars to be announced) concert  “Remembering Earl: Music & Stories”event. The day’s activities will be at the Center, while the evening concert will be at Shelby High School’s Malcolm Brown Auditorium, where Scruggs performed in 2007 and 2009. Scruggs was an inaugural inductee into the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Honor in 1991. In 1992, he was awarded the National Medal of Arts in 1994 and was inducted into the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame in 2009
