It’s been a long time coming and certainly a lot longer than Tony wanted but the world got to hear what it’s been missing - Tony’s real voice.
The IBMA awards presentation audience had the very privileged honor of hearing it in person when Rice was inducted into the Bluegrass Hall of Fame and gave his “Thank You” remarks.
Rice has been suffering from a condition known as muscle tension dysphonia and hasn’t sung on stage or in a studio since the early 1990’s.
During a part of his speech Rice reached out to offer hope and encouragement for fellow bluegrass performer Alison Krauss who has also just recently been given a diagnosis of dysphonia and has missed showcases at the IBMA festivities because of it.
