PineCone-Piedmont Council of Traditional Music is excited to announce something new we'll be trying this weekend - in addition to hosting the live concert at the Museum of History, we are also partnering with Myriad Media to live stream the show on Concert Window!
The Council has been exploring options for live streaming for some time, and have received requests and inquiries from concert attendees about live streaming, particularly for free concerts.
They look forward to testing this option for roots music fans who might not live nearby but who are interested in these types of programs!
Of course, doing video production well is not easy, nor is it inexpensive to do well. For this first foray into live streaming, PineCone is grateful to the team at Myriad Media for volunteering their time, talent, knowledge, and equipment to help make this possible!
Because this is a test, there will be no charge to watch the livestream, though Concert Window is set up to accept tips for the musicians, and tipping is encouraged!
If this test goes well and they look into more live streaming in the future, they will probably offer it on a pay-what-you-can basis in order to provide additional payment to the artists and to help defray costs associated with the programs.

While there is nothing quite like seeing a concert in person, and watching a concert from home means you won't get to meet the artists in person after the show, live streaming does offer more people the opportunity to see the concert than the 311 who can fit in the Museum's Daniels Auditorium. And with the last three concerts in the Music of the Carolinas series attracting capacity crowds, offering the live stream option seems like a win-win for all parties involved.
PineCone, the Piedmont Council of Traditional Music, presents more than 30 roots music concerts per year, in addition to producing the annual Wide Open Bluegrass Festival in collaboration with the IBMA, the City of Raleigh, and a local organizing committee. PineCone also promotes area jam sessions, offers bluegrass camps for youth, and more. The PineCone Bluegrass Radio Show on WQDR 94.7-FM has been on the air for 26 years.
