Bluegrass In The Wall Street Journal

Image634807328582220199It’s not too often but every once in a while you’ll see “Bluegrass”   in the Wall Street Journal.

Today we’re treated to a reference to the genre thanks to Dr. Ralph Stanley’s participation in the off-beat Australian film “Lawless.”

The movie is based upon the historical novel, "The Wettest County in the World" by Matt Bondurant.

Nick Cave who fronts the rock band Bad Seeds wrote the screenplay and talked with the Journal’s John Jurgensen.

Bluegrass Film Documentary “Porchlight Sessions” Asks Community for Support!

FILM PRODUCERS PLEAD FOR FINANCIAL HELP.
Image634701694188329574“The Porchlight Sessions”, a film documentary based out of Los Angeles, CA is still in need of some financial help to finish their project.

A “Fundraiser” through Kickstarter.com  was launched in late February and according to the Kickstarter policy, they have a limited time to fully raise their stated goal or they get none of the pledges and must seek other avenues for funding the project.

The Porchlight Sessions Kickstarter deadline will expire in just a few weeks at the end of April. With just 14 days to go, they are just barely past the half-way mark on their goal. Their needs include finishing funds for archival footage and stills, music licensing, and color timing.

Film Producer Seeks Donations to Finish Documentary

Last of the Breed: The Dave Evans Story

Traditional bluegrass fans have long recognized Dave Evans for what he is: a living legend. Dave is one of the few true triple threats in the genre - a talented singer, instrumentalist, and songwriter.   Alison Krauss has cited him as one of her biggest inspirations.

Image634637926653624819But while his contemporaries have seen crossover success with more mainstream audiences on the heels of O Brother Where Art Thou? and the growth of the IBMA, Dave remains largely unknown to wider listeners.

Red Line Studios film company is currently producing a documentary about the legendary bluegrass musician and Rebel Records recording artist Dave Evans, working with Tom T. Hall and others in the bluegrass and country music communities to bring the project to life.  This is a non-profit film, and with that, we are reaching out to bluegrass fans world-wide for support.

The Last of the Breed tells Dave's amazing story of music, hardship, freedom, civil rights, redemption, and destiny.  In association with The Kanawha Gateway Heritage Area and Fractured Atlas, Red Line Studios is reaching out to the bluegrass community for financial support.  As every dollar counts we have set no minimum donation amount. And as a token of our thanks we will be giving away exclusive gifts to supporters of the film.  Every donation is also eligible for a tax deduction because of our non-profit status.

New European Documentary features Music from Valerie Smith and Liberty Pike!

We heard from Becky Buller again, this time from Europe, as Valerie Smith and Liberty Pike take their award winning and innovative bluegrass to their fans on that continent.   Becky and the band had the opportunity to get a sneak preview of a new documentary entitled "Country Roads" by director Crissi Mosselman.  The film features several tracks by Valerie Smith and Liberty Pike.

The film is a documentary of director Mosselman's travels in this country last year where he met Val and the band, and according to Becky is mostly about the music he found along the way.

Still in the post production stages, Becky said she wasn't quite sure when fans in the U.S. would get a chance to see it but she promised to keep us posted.

In the meantime we were able to get her to send along a few snapshots to tease us with.
